Hua Luogeng, also known as Hua Loo-Keng, was a Chinese mathematician and politician famed for his contributions to number theory and for leading mathematics research and education in the People's Republic of China. He identified and nurtured the mathematician Chen Jingrun, who proved the best known result on the Goldbach conjecture, and Hua's later work on mathematical optimization and operations research had a major impact on China's economy. He was elected a foreign associate of the United States National Academy of Sciences in 1982.
