Hugh Huxley

Hugh Esmor Huxley was a British molecular biologist who made important discoveries in the physiology of muscle, including evidence for the sliding filament mechanism by which muscle fibers contract. Trained originally as a physicist at Cambridge, his studies were interrupted for five years by service in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, where his contribution to the development of radar earned him an MBE, before he turned to biology.
