American physicist who developed the molecular-beam magnetic resonance method in 1938, allowing precise measurement of nuclear magnetic moments by observing the reorientation of nuclear spins in an oscillating magnetic field, the discovery of nuclear magnetic resonance. Awarded the 1944 Nobel Prize in Physics for this work, which supplied the theoretical and experimental foundation for the bulk-matter NMR spectrometer Felix Bloch and Edward Purcell independently developed in 1946.

Israel Isaac "Isidor" Rabi (July 29, 1898 - January 11, 1988) was an American physicist who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1944 "for his resonance method for recording the magnetic properties of atomic nuclei." He was also one of the first scientists in the United States to work on the cavity magnetron, which is used in microwave radar and microwave ovens.
