Jacqueline K. Barton, born May 7, 1952, in New York City, is an American chemist who taught at Hunter College and Columbia University before joining the California Institute of Technology, continuing research she began under her doctoral advisor Stephen J. Lippard. Her work examines how electrons move over long distances through the stacked base pairs of DNA, and how that chemistry relates to DNA damage, repair, and possible applications in chemotherapy and diagnostics. She received the National Medal of Science in 2011 and the Priestley Medal in 2015.
