Jean-Christophe Yoccoz (1957 to 2016) was a French mathematician awarded the Fields Medal in 1994 for his work on dynamical systems. He developed the Yoccoz puzzle, a combinatorial technique for studying Julia sets, and made advances to KAM theory.
