Julian Barbour

Julian Barbour, born in 1937, is a British physicist who works on quantum gravity and the history of science. He is best known for developing a theory of timeless physics, arguing in his 1999 book The End of Time that the flow of time we perceive is an illusion and that each moment exists complete in its own right. He also researches Machian physics and, with Bruno Bertotti, co-developed the best matching technique for describing gravitational effects without treating spacetime as a fixed background.
