Laurent Lafforgue is a French mathematician who made outstanding contributions to the Langlands program in the fields of number theory and analysis, in particular proving the Langlands conjectures for the automorphism group of a function field. His proof, built on the construction of compactifications of certain moduli stacks of shtukas, was the result of more than six years of concentrated work.
