Paul Sabatier (1854-1941) was a French chemist born in Carcassonne. He shared the 1912 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Victor Grignard for his work on the hydrogenation of organic compounds in the presence of finely divided metal catalysts, a method that came to be called the Sabatier process and that underlies much of industrial catalytic chemistry.
