Ralph Nuzzo

Ralph G. Nuzzo is an American chemist born February 23, 1954, the G. L. Clark Professor of Chemistry and a professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He pioneered methods of self-assembled monolayers, opening new areas of surface chemistry with extensions into physics, biology and materials science, and his work contributed to soft lithography as a cost-effective alternative to traditional photolithography for microchip circuit patterning. He shared the 2022 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience with Jacob Sagiv, David Allara and George M. Whitesides, and he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2021.
