Robert Andrews Millikan was an American experimental physicist who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1923 for his work on the elementary charge of electricity and on the photoelectric effect. He served as chairman of the executive council of the California Institute of Technology from 1921 to 1945 and helped build it into a leading research institution.
