Sankar Kumar Pal, born in 1950, is an Indian computer scientist specializing in pattern recognition and soft computing. He serves as president of the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata and holds a professorship at IIIT Bhubaneswar, with research focused on fuzzy neural networks, machine intelligence, and image processing. He received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1990 and the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contributions to machine intelligence.
