Sudipta Sengupta, born in 1946, is an Indian structural geologist and professor at Jadavpur University in Calcutta. She pioneered geological research in Antarctica and was one of the first Indian women scientists to visit the continent, and her contributions to earth sciences earned her the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1991. She is also an accomplished mountaineer trained by Tenzing Norgay.
