Bose-Einstein statistics describes how a collection of identical particles called bosons distributes itself among available energy states, allowing any number of bosons to occupy the very same state at once, unlike the particles matter is made of. Satyendra Nath Bose, lecturing at the University of Dhaka in 1924, derived Planck's law of blackbody radiation by counting particle arrangements in a new way that did not rely on classical physics. When journals declined the paper, Albert Einstein translated it into German himself, arranged its publication, and extended the method to particles of matter, work that later led to the prediction of the Bose-Einstein condensate, a state of matter first produced in the laboratory in 1995. It is not a superseded theory; it remains standard physics.
