Universities and Colleges

The University of Oxford is a collegiate research university in Oxford, England, with teaching there in some form from 1096, which makes it the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It grew quickly from 1167, when English students were barred from attending the University of Paris. Robert Boyle and Robert Hooke worked in the city, and its laboratories, observatories and botanic garden shaped early modern science. The atlas links scientists to it where their cited articles say they studied, taught or carried out research there.
