The University of Edinburgh is a public research university in Scotland, founded in 1583 and one of the ancient universities of the country. James Hutton, Joseph Black, Charles Darwin as a student, Peter Higgs and many other scientists studied or worked there, and the university is known for its medical school and its work in physics, geology and informatics.
