The Cognitive Science Society is the principal professional organization for the interdisciplinary study of mind and intelligence, incorporated as a nonprofit in Massachusetts in 1979 by an organizing committee including Roger Schank, Allan Collins and Donald Norman. It held its first annual conference in La Jolla, California in August 1979 and now publishes the journals Cognitive Science and topiCS. Its mission is to promote cognitive science as a discipline and foster scientific interchange among researchers across artificial intelligence, linguistics, anthropology, psychology, neuroscience, philosophy and education.
