John Richard Bond

John Richard Bond, also known as Dick Bond, is a Canadian astrophysicist and cosmologist born in 1950 in Toronto, Ontario. He earned his bachelor own degree in 1973 from the University of Toronto and his doctorate in theoretical physics in 1979 from the California Institute of Technology under William A. Fowler. He has been a professor at the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics and the University of Toronto since 1985, served two five-year terms as the institute own director from 1996 to 2006, and has directed the Cosmology and Gravity Program of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research since 2002. His best known work is the theoretical modeling of anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background radiation, forming a basis for understanding contemporary cosmology and the evolution of cosmic structure. He shared the 2025 Shaw Prize in Astronomy with George Efstathiou.
