Matthew Bailes

Matthew Bailes is an astrophysicist born around 1970, a professor at the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing at Swinburne University of Technology and director of OzGrav, the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery. In 2015 he won an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellowship to work on fast radio bursts, and his research covers the birth and evolution of binary and millisecond pulsars, gravitational wave detection using arrays of millisecond pulsars, and radio astronomy data processing systems for fast radio burst discovery. He shared the 2023 Shaw Prize in Astronomy with Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin.
