Edward Kendall

Edward Calvin Kendall was an American biochemist, born in South Norwalk, Connecticut, in 1886 and died in 1972, who isolated the thyroid hormone thyroxine, discovered cortisone, and worked on the crystallization and structural identification of glutathione. He shared the 1950 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Swiss chemist Tadeusz Reichstein and Mayo Clinic physician Philip Hench for their discoveries relating to the hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure, and their biological effects.
