Elliot Meyerowitz

Elliot Meyerowitz is an American biologist born May 22, 1951, who is the George W. Beadle Professor of Biology at the California Institute of Technology, where he has been on the faculty since 1980. He began his career studying development in the fruit fly Drosophila before turning to the flowering plant Arabidopsis thaliana, where his research addressed the molecular basis of plant hormone reception and the genetic control of pattern formation in flowers and shoots, including physical models of how shoot meristems form new organs. He was elected a foreign member of the Royal Society in 2004 and to the National Academy of Sciences in 1995, received the Genetics Society of America Medal in 1996, the Balzan Prize in 2006, the Gruber Prize in Genetics in 2018, and the Wolf Prize in Agriculture in 2024.
