George Porter

George Porter, later Baron Porter of Luddenham, was a British chemist awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1967 for developing flash photolysis, a technique that uses an intense short burst of light to trigger a chemical reaction and then observes the extremely short lived intermediate species it produces. The method opened the study of fast photochemical reactions that had previously been too quick to observe directly.
