Lennart Lindegren is a Swedish astronomer born in 1950, a staff member at Lund Observatory where he earned his PhD in 1980 and became a full professor of astronomy in 2000. His research since 1976 has focused on space astrometry, and he played a central role throughout the entire duration of the European Space Agency Hipparcos and Gaia missions. He shared the 2022 Shaw Prize in Astronomy with Michael Perryman.
