Lenur Yagya Arifov was a Crimean Tatar physicist who conducted research on general relativity, gravity, cosmology, relativistic astrophysics and nuclear physics. Exiled from Crimea as a child in 1944 because of his ethnicity, he grew up in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic and studied at Samarkand State University, where he became a close colleague of the fellow Crimean Tatar physicist and civil rights activist Rollan Qadiyev, with whom he co-authored several scientific works.
