Purushottam Chakraborty

Purushottam Chakraborty is an Indian physicist, born in 1953 in Kolkata, who specializes in materials analysis using ion beams and secondary ion mass spectrometry. His research includes compositional analysis of materials, the development of metal-glass nanocomposites for photonic applications, and work on soft X-ray optics. He served as a senior professor at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kolkata and as an adjunct professor at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and sits on the editorial boards of several physics journals. In 2003 the Indian Society for Mass Spectrometry named him the country's most eminent mass spectrometrist, and India's Atomic Energy Commission awarded him a gold medal the same year.
