Shaun Cole

Shaun Malcolm Cole is a British cosmologist born November 19, 1963, who grew up in Chipping, Lancashire, earned a first class degree in physics from Jesus College, Oxford in 1985, completed Part III of the Mathematical Tripos at Cambridge, and received his doctorate from the Cambridge Institute of Astronomy. He has been Professor of Physics at Durham University since 2005 and directed its Institute for Computational Cosmology from 2020 to 2025. He shared the 2014 Shaw Prize in Astronomy with Daniel Eisenstein and John A. Peacock for work including the discovery of baryon acoustic oscillations and for semi-analytical models of galaxy formation.
