The American Chemical Society is a scientific society supporting research and education in chemistry, founded on 6 April 1876 at a meeting of chemists at the University of the City of New York, now New York University. It is one of the world's largest scientific societies and publishes dozens of peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society, founded in 1879.
