Benjamin Roy Mottelson (1926-2022) was an American-Danish nuclear physicist, born in Chicago and later a citizen of Denmark, where he worked for most of his career. He shared the 1975 Nobel Prize in Physics with Aage Bohr and James Rainwater for their work on the non-spherical geometry of atomic nuclei.
