David Nathaniel Spergel is an American theoretical astrophysicist born March 25, 1961, the Emeritus Charles A. Young Professor of Astronomy on the Class of 1897 Foundation at Princeton University. Since 2021 he has been President of the Simons Foundation, and he is known for his work on the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) project studying the cosmic microwave background. He shared the 2010 Shaw Prize in Astronomy with Charles L. Bennett and Lyman Page for their WMAP work.
