The University of Amsterdam is a public research university in the Netherlands, founded in 1632 as the Athenaeum Illustre and made a university in 1877. Its physicists and chemists include Johannes van der Waals and Jacobus van 't Hoff, both of whom won Nobel Prizes while at Amsterdam. The university teaches and does research across the sciences, the humanities and the social sciences. The atlas links scientists to it where their cited articles say they studied or taught there.
