Stanford University is a private research university in Stanford, California, founded in 1885 by Leland and Jane Stanford and opened in 1891. Its faculty and graduates in physics, chemistry, medicine and engineering include many Nobel laureates, and the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is run on its campus.
