Leiden University is a public research university in the Netherlands, founded in 1575 by William of Orange and the oldest university in the country. Its physics laboratory, led by Heike Kamerlingh Onnes, liquefied helium and discovered superconductivity there, and Hendrik Lorentz and Pieter Zeeman worked in the city.
